For all my dorkery, I am a bit of a girly girl.
Okay, fine. I’m a product whore.
I love me some beauty products. I’m happiest when slathered in pretty smelling lotions and fancy mascara and lip gloss that my hair gets stuck in when the wind blows.
And because I love beauty products, I love beauty blogs. And because I’ve read so many, I’m SUPER picky about who are my go-to’s when I want to check out a product.
There are a couple that are my favorites and I visit regularly, like Nouveau Cheap and All Lacquered Up. (Which are totally getting their own Link Love.) But generally, most beauty blogs leave a lot to be desired. They cover a lot of the same products and are usually so excited about getting products from PR firms that they gush over them and it never feels like a real review.
But then there’s We Heart This.
I am a reviewer for We Heart This, but that little gig came about after nearly a year of me visiting the blog nearly every day. Which also resulted in my spending a lot of money. Money well spent though, because I discovered some great products like Julie Hewett’s Camellia Balm and Benefit BADgal liner
But WHT is more than just beauty. Editors Stef and Tyna also feature posts on green living, cooking, organization, pets, women’s issues, giveaways…they are like that really great women’s magazine that you want Cosmo or Allure to be. Without the attacks on your self-esteem. (Plus they’ve been besties for forever. As someone with a best friend that I’ve known for 25 years, I love that.)
WHT celebrates women in all our glory; the girly side that gushes about a new primer as well as the serious side that considers what it means to turn 40. And as a reviewer, I’m encouraged to test a product and do it honestly. If I don’t like something, that goes in my review. It’s not about providing us reviewers with more crap to put on our counter (TOTALLY a bonus though, ) but about giving readers honest and real reviews.
Curious about the breadth that they cover? For We Heart This I’ve covered mascara, French high-end hair care, a two-part primer on comic books, fancy cleaning gloves, eco-friendly body lotion, a book swapping site and nail polish.
So check out We Heart This! Stop in, check out the posts, say hi and join the conversation.
And stay beautiful. (HA! I’m cheesy. But seriously. Go check WHT out.)
I’m definitely going to check them out. I’ve visited a few beauty blogs and was kind of turned off because everything seemed some PRish. Looking forward to some honesty.
Also, it’s really fun to just read something and then gush over eye liner. Also? They participate in the annual Raffle for the Rescues that benefits rescue shelters in LA. And they get their readers involved by allowing us to buy tickets for the event to win prizes. (And for my ticket last year, I got the BEST gift bag. I mean, I’m all for saving puppies and such, but PREZZIES!!)
Me want the eco friendly body lotion. My elbows are hateful areas too.
Yay! I need something like this.
I’m heading over there right now.
Ah, now it clicks, that’s how I discovered your blog! I’ve been checking out so many beauty blogs lately and bookmarking so many others to check out in the immediate future that I’m losing track of how I discovered what, but I came across WHT about a month ago & checked out your blog from their “Meet The Readers” tab so I bookmarked you & ah, yes, that’s exactly how it happened. ….this comment is clearly more about my brain fart than anything of actual relevance, but seeing as how I’m kinda comment friendly on several of your posts (so far), that lightbulb was so bright I had to share it.
You are adorable! I love all your comments and it makes me happy that you took the time to make them. However you found me, I’m so glad you did! YAY FOR NEW BLOG FRIENDS!!!
