St. Baldrick’s – Etsy Giveaway!

It’s giveaway time again! Because everybody loves prizes, and in honor of my St. Baldrick’s event I’m offering up an Etsy gift card worth $25!

Everybody, together now….WOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

Alyssa, why are you doing this?
Because you’re pretty. And to help spread the word about my shave event!

So I have to donate to enter?
Nope! As grateful as I am for every single dollar donated in the effort to fight childhood cancer, there is no purchase necessary and donating will not increase your chances.
Now whether it increases your karmic chances and might one day allow you to lead a more enlightened life and possibly get to make out with Taye Diggs as a reward from the Universe?
Maybe. I really can’t say. But do you really want to chance it?

photoEnter the giveaway, or I will boop your nose.

How do I enter?
Leave a comment in this post. Anything you like, the comment is the important part, not the content. Need a prompt? Tell us about someone you know who has been touched by cancer, at any age.

That too personal for you? Just leave me a comment on how you are doing today!

Still too invasive? Feel free to just post this: “Mind your business, enter me in the contest.”

This is a mandatory entry, as I’ll need your email address in order to send the Etsy gift card to you. You may also get two extra entries by tweeting or sharing this post on Facebook. (Use the adorable little icons at the bottom of this post.) Just make sure that you come back here and comment with the link to your tweet or Facebook post. (Have a private account, but still want the extra entries? Email me at alyssa [dot] kindofamess[at] gmail [dot] com.)

That’s complicated.
Look. I love you, but I need you to lower your expectations on what I can do for you. Mind-reading your desire to enter the giveaway is above my paygrade. Be a dear and leave a dang comment.

Anything else I need to know, smartmouth?
This contest is in no way affiliated with St. Baldrick’s, Etsy, Twitter or Facebook. Winner will be chosen randomly from the pool of entrants. No purchase is necessary. Donation will not increase your chances of winning. All entrants must provide a valid email address to win. One comment, Tweet and Facebook share per person. Any duplicate entries will be deleted. All social media entries will be verified. Contest ends September 14th at 11:59pm CST. Questions should be directed to alyssa [dot] kindofamess[at] gmail [dot] com. Be nice to your mama and eat your vegetables. Stop trying to make “Fetch,” happen. If you haven’t watched BBC’s Sherlock, you should rectify that. Stay gold, Pony Boy. You’re still pretty.

Good luck, y’all!

Thanks for helping to support such an important cause! I work as a child life specialist at a children’s hospital and know first hand how deeply childhood cancer affects families. Thank you!

I am doing great today! And I think what you are doing is great! I was inspired by Liz to grow my hair out to donate it, although I’m not in a position where I can shave my head (I don’t think I could emotionally handle going to court bald) and I have about another 4-6 months of growing before I chop. But I got a haircut last week for the first time in three months and now it dries cute and curly so I’m feeling fancy.

I am so in awe of you for doing this Alyssa! It seems like 2013 has been a really hard year for a lot of people cancer-wise. Personally I know to people who have passed away due to cancer this year, as well as my grandma, who got her all clear at her final post-treatment screening, only to get pneumonia before she had recovered her strength.

I was just able to donate 10 inches of my hair! I never really thought I’d be effected by cancer, but my husband had leukemia when he was a little kid, and my mom just went through breast cancer treatments, so it really and truly does impact everyone in some way or another. Everyone out there who is fighting cancer is so brave and incredible!

Thanks so much for doing this. I have had several important people pass away in the past few years as a result of cancer. Next time I grow my hair long enough, I’ll be sure to donate!

I’m very sorry for your losses. But just supporting those of us who do donate, and especially spreading the word, you’re already a part of the charity, so thank you!

I’m doing great! Just found out that the Petsmart that I bring my dogs to for training is doing a K9 good citizens test tonight…so I’m going to cross my fingers and bring down the pups and hope they do an OK job (I’m not expecting miracles here, but the fact that I can now walk them around people and other animals without any face eating incidents makes me so proud). So, you know, we’ll see how that goes. Your super awesome with what you’re doing, and I totally applaud all your efforts!

Oooo, I hope those puppies behaved!! Keep us updated, I’ll be watching the news to make sure there were no reports of adorable dogs eating faces up in the PetSmart.

My cousin died of cancer when he was 16 years. I was 14 at the time. It made me look at life in a very different way. You tend to appreciate the very small things and life and not get upset about the dumb things. Watching him go through it was a very painful time for all of us.

You are so wonderful for doing this. Wish I was as brave as you are and could do something like this. I have a very dear friend whose son, Weston, who is a cancer survivor after he was diagnosed with Stage 4 Neuroblastoma. I’m going to try and link you to a picture of him and his brother Colton who shaved his head in support of his big brother. Sherrie, my friend, also shaved her head for St. Baldrick and I’m also attaching a link to her story. Every time I see Weston, I remember his story and what a little hero he is.

Link to her FB picture of Weston and his big brother.

Link to their story and her story of when she donated her hair.

You are a good person Alyssa. I hope the links work.

Alyssa is doing this because of the LOVE in her heart.. God Bless her and all the children fighting cancer. I personally know a young man (17) who lost his fight with cancer last Easter. If it wasn’t for the love he knew and felt along the way, It would be so hard to deal with. Without Love we are nothing.

If you take a look around St. Baldrick’s at their Honored Kids, you’ll find my youngest. Moriah R. of Pennsylvania is a 6 year survivor of stage IV neuroblastoma. She was diagnosed at age 6 on Friday, April 13, 2007. She had a primary tumor in her left adrenal gland, a secondary tumor below her pancreas, and 80% of what should have been her bone marrow in her hips, femurs, shoulders, and part of her spine was cancer instead of bone marrow. She’s lucky. She’s in that 33%. She just celebrated her 13th birthday.

Thank you. Thank you for helping other kids have a now. Too many never get the chance. We support St. Baldrick’s and have helped raise over $2k in the past 2 years. We also strongly support Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation and do what we can for them annually as well.

Thank you for the giveaway, and thank you for raising awareness and support for St Baldricks!

My “other mom” (part of a group of parents who raised all of their kids together) passed away from cancer about 3 years ago and my “other sister” (one of the group of us kids) just had a double mastectomy due to breast cancer last month.

Cancer sucks, I can say that with all honesty.

By the way, you should look into rafflecopter.com which would make things MUCH easier on you for verifying and picking winners of giveaways such as this!

I am almost NEVER late to the party, so I don’t know what happened that allowed this close call to take place. I think the Texas heat is killing the smarticles. That being said, I want to take this opportunity to tell you how amazing I really think you are. I still am in awe that you are doing this because I don’t think I would be able to and for that you, lady, are in possession of loving soul and spirit. I love you and have known you were beautiful on the outside…now I know that beauty comes from the overabundance you have on the inside.
Now…..if you ever throw this in my face or bring up this sap fest, I will bring down a wrath of hell you know nothing of.
