***Edited because the stinkin’ link didn’t work!***
I don’t do resolutions. Mostly because I break them and then feel terrible about myself. My self-esteem doesn’t need the yearly hit, thank you very much.
HOWEVER. I’m going to take on a small project for 2013 off of my updated Life List, and I think I’ll stick to it.
See, I love mail. LOVE IT. And I love cards and pretty paper and stationary. LOVE THEM. To the point that Jethro is willing to go to a mall 30 minutes out of the way, just so I don’t hit the one with a Paper Source in it. (SWOON. I have been to heaven and it contains paper in Stardream Quartz and embossing powder…)
BUT, the thing is…I’m terrible at sending cards. I haven’t been on time with a birthday card in years, unless it’s the one I bought on the way to the party. I was late with my wedding thank you cards, I am STILL sending thank you notes and birth announcements five months later and just the other day I found like five Christmas cards I forgot to send out.
I suck at this. I know that.
But 2013 is the year I’m going to get better. Sure, I’m going to lose weight, work out more, eat better, learn something new and do something amazing. I’m going to strive to do all that too. BUT, at the very least, if I fail in all my other endeavors, I will be the card sending, note writing, holiday acknowledging QUEEN of two thousand and mutha-effin’ thirteen.
However, I must be held accountable. And Jethro is not good at this because he will always err in the direction that makes me the least crazy-face. I’m looking at YOU, my dear moppets, to keep me honest.
So here’s what’s going to happen. Here is a link to Postable, an online address book and if you’d like a card from me on your birthday (or in general, because I’ll be sending surprise notes too…) put your address in there. (No worries, it is secure. And I promise not to do anything skeevy with your address, like sign you up for incontinence newsletters or show up unannounced at your door. ) Make sure to include your birthday and you’ll get soemthing from me on (or around) that date! It may be a proper card from the store, it may be a handmade card, it may be a crazy postcard that I picked up from the gas station, it may include stickers, who knows. But it’ll be something and, hopefully, it will be on time.
I have a special calendar set aside to send out cards and notes weekly to keep me organized and I’ll do monthly updates to keep me accountable. Let’s see if I can keep this up and accomplish something off of my Life List.
How’s everyone else’s Life List going? I’ve been putting mine up on Go Mighty, just to keep it in the forefront of my mind. Anyone else have a list on there, or a Life List on your own blog? (Or in your head?) Post it, or links, in the comments and let’s see if we can help each other out!

HOLY MOTHER OF MARY, this is one of mine, too! I’m totally addicted to paper goods (helloooooooo, Crane & Co., you saucy minx). And I’m always bummed out that I never get any mail … but I never manage to send any mail, and so my ennui is totes hypocritical. And I can’t do any of it on time. (I’m staring down the barrel of my 6-month wedding anniversary, and we’re still not done with the thank-yous. And please don’t ask about Christmas and birthdays, because I’ve basically given up.) So I’ve resolved to get better! (Which is all a long way of saying that you’re clearly my resolution soul mate.) I would love to do this with you in solidarity (I would absolutely send one back, of course), but I live in the Czech Republic, so I’m probably out. But have fun, and good luck!
I cannot even look at Crane and Co. Too classy for me. Letterpress gives me the vapors…
NO WAY. Especially since we are soul mates, you are totally not out. I demand you put your address in there, missy!
umm. postable? That’s brilliant.
RIGHT?
I found it through Tara’s newsletter from Ephemera Press. She also has a blog called The Elevated Envelope that is WONDERFUL. I’ve never participated in it, my skills are not up to par, but it’s so cool….
Oh man, Paper Source. There isn’t one in my city, but where my mister lives, on the other side of the state, there are two. TWO! And walking in to one of them was like dying and going to heaven. Pretty paper! Glitter! Coordinating envelopes! I bought as much stuff as I could schlep back with me on the train home, all under the premise of using them to make cards for my Etsy shop, but somehow I can’t bring myself to cut into the gorgeousness.
It was SO BAD during my wedding that Jethro had to put a damper on the “paper” part of our budget. You have no idea how close I’ve been to buying a Sizzix on several occasions. I haunt Craigslist for them like some crafty stalker…
I’m so in! I need the help on this, too. Feel free to stop on my doorstep, and bring Tater!
I’ll be your card-sending sponsor! Together, we can do this! 🙂
This is the coolest thing ever! I love sending and receiving mail, so I threw my hat in the ring. 🙂
YAY!!
I love this goal! And Paper Source is the shiznit!
PS They are supposed to be opening new locations of Paper Source somewhere in the Dallas area. Haven’t heard where yet.
I don’t know if Dallas can handle that much awesome…
That’s an amazing idea ! I love cards too and always spend hours picking them for birthdays ❤ but I looooove getting mail even more !!! I'm in France so not sure whether I'm "eligible" but think it's a great idea so I out my address anyway 🙂
ps : I'm also 6 months pregnant and I loved reading about your baby-expecting, so glad everything went ok for you !
NO WAY, you are totally eligible, just like sarahjo! That way I can look all cool to the post office when I’m all, “Yup…just sending mail to FRANCE and the CZECH REPUBLIC….no big deal…”
And then they’ll be so jealous they’ll talk about me in the break room.
At least that’s how it happens in my head, so we’re going with that.
