Jenny is an APW reader but does not have a blog, Twitter or extraneous handle. And I find that damn refreshing. Who else do you know over the age of 8 who doesn’t have an alternate personality on the internet?!? She also needs a new job in AZ. Help a sister out.
Fun fact about Jenny that you (and she) did not know: Jenny can speak to dogs. There have been rumors that she is helping them plan a coup, but nothing has been confirmed.
What is your dream job(s)?
This is a tricky question for me. I feel like it changes a lot. But today, my dream job would be a high school English teacher.
What would you eat if it were your last meal?
Another one that changes daily 🙂 Um, I’d have to say definitely breakfast. Two eggs over medium, hashbrowns, bacon, and a biscuit with country gravy. Tabasco, salt and pepper over the eggs and hashbrowns – YUM. Oh, and a big glass of milk.
What superpower would you like to have?
Flying, I have a lot of dreams about flying.
How has your life turned out differently than you planned it to be when you were younger?
Well, for one it is nothing like I ‘planned’. I thought for sure I’d be married with 3 or 4 kids by now. Stay at home mom until all kids are in school. I am now 28, been engaged for 7 years, and at this point I am undecided on children. But, I love my life (except for my job) and wouldn’t change anything about it(again, besides my job).
What is your favorite line from a movie?
“My momma always said, “Life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get.” …it’s so true.
What do you do for work? If you want to do something else, what is it?
I am an office manager for a window & door company. I would love to do anything else. Problem is, I’ve been in construction since high school, and I can’t seem to get out. It’s such a large industry in Arizona.
Pick a time when you got in trouble when you were little: what did you do? and what punishment resulted?
Hmm, I remember one day I got off the bus after school with my friend, and we decided to go to another friends babysitters house. Well, her mom was on the phone and I didn’t go home to tell my mom that I was going to go play over there. When I finally went home (like 2 hours later) my mom was quite frantic. Yeah, I got grounded, which doesn’t sound bad but I rarely got in trouble so that killed me.
What’s your secret ninja skill?
I am pretty quiet, but every once in a while I will have a really good snappy comeback that catches people totally off guard.
What thing do you believe in that you know you shouldn’t? (Ghost, horoscopes, Wyoming)
I definitely believe in ghosts. I will read my horoscope but usually the next day to see if it was true.
Talk to yourself at 5, 10, 15 and 20. What one sentence would you say?
Have fun and stop worrying about everything!
If you could ask Alyssa anything, what would it be?
I would ask you the last question on my list, what sentence would you tell yourself back in the day?
At 5: Keep making them laugh, you get away with more stuff.
At 10: They’re just boobs; he other girls will get them soon too and they’ll get you drinks in about 10 years.
At 15: You’re too brown, big and tall for the ingenue roles; less Juliet, more Cleopatra – they’re better parts anyway.
At 20: Stick with the writing thing, actors are crazy anyway.
Ha I feel famous now 🙂 I would like to report that I DID find a new job! And so far, I am loving it! Thanks so much Alyssa!
Is it a teaching job? Will you share with me?
I had your breakfast this morning. Is it okay that I put mushrooms in the hashbrowns?
So many of your answers are the same as mine…are you my younger twin?
Can I ask any more questions?
🙂
🙂 No, it’s still in construction. But the atmosphere is SO MUCH BETTER. I don’t have a teaching degree or certificate or whatever it is that you need to be a teacher, but someday I will go back to college and get my teaching degree 🙂
yes yes yes to the mushrooms!
And, ask away 🙂
YAY for new jobs!!! I started a new one about two years ago and even though I loved the kids in my old one, the environment was toxic. Going into a new environment makes a WORLD of difference. Congratulations!
And I apparently have a love of smiley faces…
awesome interview Jenny! that breakfast sounds really good. I love breakfast so much! and congrats on the new/better job 🙂 I need your new job mojo myself…!
I don’t know what your background is but look into the teach for America program. I’m pretty sure they have sites in AZ. When I was trying to decide between social work and teaching I spent much time on the teach for America website (ok and I still sometimes go back…just to look though I swear).
I don’t know about Teach for America, but most states have their own career change teacher programs. In New York it’s called Teach for New York, I think there is one in AZ too — good luck getting out of job hell suck! You can doooo it!
