So my sister-in-law got married last month, (Hi Lady B.!!) and like most brides, when she was done with the wedding, she was DONE. While we were cleaning up, we did a slash and burn with the decor; unless someone claimed it, it was trash or given away as she’s from Vegas and wasn’t about to take 45 tea light votives on her honeymoon.
My mother-in-law handed me a box of vases and asked me if I wanted them. I was about to say no, but something in my life has changed. Whereas before I would have declined due to space constraints or offered to drop the box off at Goodwill. However, at this point in time, I am a blogger. And as such, my immediate thought was, “Oooo. I could post about this.” (Anyone else afflicted with this disease?)
So, much to Jethro’s chagrin, I lugged a box of 12 clear glass cylinder vases home to sit in our corner and collect dust. However, I have a plan.
I will attempt to do at least 12 crafty projects with these vases. I am making no promises that they will be good, nor will I promise that these will be posted with any regularity. (Unless one of y’all has some money to burn and want to be my patron. Eh? Eh??)
However, I am taking suggestions on these. Should I paint it with glass paint? (Say yes, because I already bought the paint.) Fill it with Jello? Grow something in it? Let me know what you think!
Ha!! James gives me crap because i have the same problem with blogging!!! The other day he said, “your life is just one big blog post!” Or he will do something and say, “you better not blog about this!” Haha. Oh to be married to a Blogger. Poor guy.
Jethro is just now realizing this. He was fine with my conversation post earlier today until I reminded him that his mom and aunt would read about how he kept talking about “titty Spanx.”
GROW JELLO!!!
I was going to point out that if you fill one with Jello you will probably grow something unintentionally (not speaking from experience, of course…). I think Meg beat me to it though!
And have Jethro get yet ANOTHER “-itis” from imagined mold spores?!?
I already have to hear enough about necrotizing fasciitis and how I’m gonna die if I eat a macaron because it’s made with old egg whites….
You could create a really cool chandelier. Drill holes in the bottom of them to get your electrial wire though and then screw light bulbs on the inside. Home Depot can give your specs on drill bits and the wires and stuff. If you use different sizes or if they are all the same, it would look really cool in a cluster of even if you just hung a few in a line. You could also paint them to have your light come out in colors.
This is a really good idea.
Then again, have you met me?? Do you really think I need to be drilling anything, much less glass??
But YOU should do it with some glass jars. And take pictures. And write it up and I’ll post it.
Giant shot glasses, (and lord help me for referencing this) like Das Boot in Beerfest?
And you’ve just endeared yourself forever to Jethro. He loves anything Broken Lizard does…if I hear one more Super Troopers quote, I might stab him….
i love the glass paint idea. YES grow something. it would be too cool to see the roots!
I’m thinking maybe ivy. But I KILL everything. If I call it art, can dead plant still be beautiful??
people keep dried flowers without comment. say it’s deliberate and start an interiors revolution!
GLASS PAINT. yes!
or there’s this stuff (name forgotten, i’ll look it up) we have in Europe which is like plastic paint. you “draw” on an acetate sheet with the stuff (there’s an outliner paint and then filler paint) and let it dry and then peel it off and you can stick it onto most flat surfaces. windows, mirrors and glass things are ideal. i did a bunch of these for Xmas once, so easy to take down later! it’s basically a little less scary than glass paint, but hey, you have that already.
wow, do i ramble.
anyway: http://www.craftmaterialsupplies.co.uk/acatalog/Marabu-fun-and-fancy-80ml-bottles.html that’s it and some instructions.
blah. sorry. i think you should glass paint a bunch of them and turn them into massive candle holders. always cool.
LIQUID RAINBOW!
Sorry, but this stuff is just like a product they don’t make anymore called Liquid Rainbow. I had that while I was in intern in AZ and I damn near Liquid Rainbow’ed every thing in the house. It was out of control. SO FUN.
Aww, now I’m sad. I miss you Liquid Rainbow!
Glass paint sounds like a fun project. You can also try glass etching. Sherry and John made it look sooo easy over on their blog: http://www.younghouselove.com/2010/11/thanks-glassing/
And if you want to grow something, how about bamboo? All you need is some rocks and water, and I hear it’s hard to kill.
Ooo, my mom used to do glass etching, it’s SO easy. She still does it and makes stuff as presents….
Bamboo is a really good idea! Especially the hard to kill part.
this is a little boring, but i love it – fill one of them up with rocks that you’ve collected from all the places you’ve gone (and if you don’t have any rocks, start collecting!)
Aww, fun! No, I like it. Except I don’t go anyway, so it’d be a collection of like four rocks. *sad trombone*
I vote paint them all and then decide what to do with them. 🙂
I have contemplated taking them somewhere and getting some aggression out by breaking the shit out of them, but that’s not really blog-worthy… 🙂
I vote jello — but with things suspended inside the jello. Preferably a plastic dinosaur if you can manage it.
OMG, I just thought about doing that yesterday. INCLUDING the dinosaur!
GET OUT OF MY HEAD!!!!
They would look lovely with something flowy like ivy growing out of them. Or something tall and slender like the vases.
Not a bad idea. I have a mess of ivy that I rooted in water, it seems to be the only thing I can’t kill…
