Kind of a Mess Interviews: Jenn of A Misallocation of Resources

Jenn is sweet, a regular commenter AND her blog features great projects, wedding talk and amazing recipes.  Plus, SHE MAKES FURNITURE AND KNOWS HOW TO DO LETTER-PRESS.  WHY are you not best friends with her already?!? (aren’t she and her sweetie Brandon sexy and adorable?)

Fun fact about Jenn that you (and she) did not know: She, along with her partners in crime Boris and Natasha, have a plot to save the world with pie.  A delicious, delicious plan.

What is your dream job(s)?
I have a bunch: I’d love to be an architect not worried about my job because of the economy, and I have always wanted to retire and be a florist.  Since I got into doing all this wedding stationary, I have toyed a bit with the idea of crossing over into graphic design, starting a stationary company…

What would be your dream trip?
Meandering through Thailand, then doing the same in India.  Just the thought of the food makes my mouth water, not to mention the thought of the sightseeing, the overwhelming experience…

What is your favorite ensemble and what does it say about you?
I don’t so much have a favorite ensemble, as much as I have a top 5.  Perhaps this says I am indecisive?

What do you do for work?  If you want to do something else, what is it?
I am an architect.  I love my job in theory, just not the way it plays out in practice.

What kind of impact do you want your work to have, professionally or personally?
For an architect this is an easy question – I want someone to feel like a building I have worked on is the perfect answer to the needs of the space.

What was your best Halloween costume ever?
Princess Jasmine, when I was about 9.  My mom made me a 2-piece belly-button-baring shiny blue suit, complete with black long wig and blue headband.  She actually had portraits taken of me in costume that year (along with my sister as Belle in a Mom-made gold ball gown.)

Cake or pie?
Pie.

What do you do better than ANYONE else in the world?
Rationalize my craziness.  Also, aggravate my sister.

What thing do you believe in that you know you shouldn’t? (Ghost, horoscopes, Wyoming)
The idea that my watching or not watching (or doing anything else) helps my sports teams win or lose.

What is the thing you dislike most about yourself?  What’s the thing you like most?
I dislike being unable to let go.  But I like that I can accomplish an incredible amount by not allowing other people’s expectations to limit my personal goals.

If you could ask me (Alyssa) anything, what would it be?
What is your favorite beauty product of all time?
What kind of horrible question is this? It’s like Sophie’s Choice…. Okay, fine. MAC’s Prep+Prime powder. It’s matte finish makes my heart skip a beat…

for some people this ma not be a big milestone, but after 18 months of engagement, 2 months to go is a big deal.

hahaha I was trying sooo hard not be jerk and point that out! But now I don’t have to 🙂

My mom is absolutely convinced that ND will only score when she is not in the room. I think this is also a convenient excuse to avoid my father during the games – he definitely screams at the TV from his chair.

And Jenn? I love your dream trip. Wandering through new places (with excellent food!) is one of my favorite things to do.

Another Jen (but I do 1 “n”) that is a giant foodie. I love going to new places and sampling the food. For example, I’m going to Portland next month for a friend’s wedding, and while some people have told me I “have to” go to Powell’s, I am WAY more excited about oysters. 🙂

I would 100% recommend getting excited about both. Oysters are one of my fave foods (my parents have a funny story about me as a toddler, when the only thing I would eat from a salad bar was the smoked oysters, and when I finished a plate I would bang it onto my tray until I got more). But Powell’s is truly amazing – they have almost a whole room full of used Agatha Christies….. Portland is pretty much phenomenal.
